Where can I find out more about DANTES tests? The DANTES test is short for Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support. DANTES or DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) tests are the same thing just referred to under two different names. This is a program similar to a CLEP test where you take a test and if you pass, you’ll receive college credit. There are tests for a variety of study areas, most are for general education classes. This allows you to skip a class, a semester or even a whole year of college, depending on your school. Here is a list of all the DANTES/DSST tests available:
In the second column, 3B stands for three credits of undergraduate credit. Those DSST tests noted with a 3BU stand for three upper division credits. DANTES/DSST tests are a great way to skip classes, earn college credit, achieve sophomore standing early and graduate on time. You don't have to be involved with the military to take a DSST test. They are available at over 2000 schools and universities. Talk to your academic advisor or college counselor to see if you can take a DANTES test. DSST tests are statistically easier to take then a CLEP test. This is because you are only required to choose from A-D answer choices instead of A-E with a CLEP test. You already have a 25% chance of getting the correct answer. Also, you only need to score approximately 50% right to pass the test. You are not expected to know all the answers to every question. You can study for DANTES / DSST tests on your own time, making it an ideal solution for working adults, people going back to school, students with limited time, basically anyone who can benefit from having additional college credit and one more class checked off their list. You can find a list of where you can take a DANTES test here.
